Introduction: A blog about forts
Most of the places on natural beauty or places of worship are already well known and attract a lot of visitors. Furthermore, such places have been beautified by authorities and leave little to explore in terms of history or architecture as both have been critically and historically chronicled.
The forts of Karnataka - especially the ruined ones tend to capture my imagination because:
- They are 'unkempt' with thick overgrowth of trees and speak tales of a bygone era
- The architecture leaves a lot to imagination as you debate teh design, the entry points and the outcome in the event of war or seige
- Lastly, these forts offer ample opportunity for exploration. Many of these forts have some rain-proof shelters so that you can spend the night there. Otherwise, there's always tents (of course) should you want to spend the night there
There are more than 25 forts in a 100km radius from bangalore. This means that you can leave early in the morning, start your trek early and reach bangalore by evening or night
Also, I have not attempted to classify the forts into any category by size, architecture, historical period or dynasty. There are forts that are relatively weak (such as Nijigal near Dobbspet) compared to Nandi Fort which is clearly superior.
Finally, I do not claim to be an expert on fort architecture or history. I intend meeting historians as well as other Subject Matter Experts to augment my knowledge and share the same here.

Please expect more dedicated blogs in the days to come
